From
salsa to rock, from merengue to hip-hop, from bachata to reggaeton,
producer / composer / pianist Marlow Rosado has had his musical hand in
all of it. A native of Puerto Rico, he is a salsero at heart, but has
successfully written, played and produced hits in a variety of musical
styles for some of the most renowned artists in Latin music.
From
the driving rock tracks he co-wrote on Alejandra Guzman’s “Lipstick,”
(nominated for Best Rock Album of the Year by both the American and
Latin Grammys), to the emotionally charged Yolandita Monge production,
“SENTIMIENTO BORINQUEÑO,” written as a love letter to his home land,
with touches of artists the likes of Elvis Crespo and Puerto Rican Power
thrown in for good measure, and it’s easy to realize that Marlow
Rosado’s compositions are heard across airwaves the world over on a
daily basis. However, ask him what his proudest moments as a composer
have been, and without pause he names his compositions “Me Dejo En El
Aire” and “Un No Se Que,” being recorded by the legendary El Gran Combo
De Puerto Rico.
He has played and worked with a
diverse repertoire of artists including Celia Cruz, the unforgettable
Tejana signer Selena, Larry Harlow, Tommy Olivencia, Marc Anthony,
Ricardo Montaner, Olga Tañón and Desmond Child, among others. Recently,
he arranged and directed the horns sessions for Ricky Martin's new
production.
Marlow earned a Masters degree in
Jazz Education, and he has taught at the elementary as well as the
University level. He is continually sought out by Latin Artists for his
musical arrangement skills, his aggressive montunos on the piano, as
well as his ability to direct orchestras for artists such as the late
Salsa legend Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Jr., Tito Nieves, and many others.
It is not uncommon to see Marlow’s name on CD liner notes, whether it
is as a pianist, producer, songwriter or musical director.
But
now, with the birth of Marlow Rosado y La Riqueña, the man behind the
music takes to the stage himself, with the project closest to his heart
and years in the making.
Versatilidad
es quizás la palabra que mejor describe la personalidad y talento
musical de Marlow Rosado: compositor, escritor (absolutamente bilingüe),
pianista, arreglista y director de orquesta de géneros tan diversos
como la salsa, el rock, jazz, merengue, bachata, reggaeton, hip hop o la
cumbia urbana.
Su toque como escritor y
productor ha quedado plasmado en discos como Lipstick de Alejandra
Guzmán (nominado para Mejor Album Rock del Año para los Grammy y Latin
Grammy), así como también en temas como Apreta’o del grupo La Fuerza de
Abrahim Quintanilla, Sentimiento Boriqueño, escrito para Yolandita
Monge, Me Dejó En El Aire y Un No Sé Qué, grabados por El Gran Combo de
Puerto Rico y otros escritos para Elvis Crespo y la orquesta Puerto
Rican Power.
Ha tocado y trabajado para
artistas tan diversos como Celia Cruz, la inolvidable cantante tejana
Selena, Larry Harlow, Tommy Olivencia, Marc Anthony, Ricardo Montaner,
Olga Tañón y Desmond Child, entre tantos. Y recientemente fue el
arreglista y director de la sección de metales en la nueva producción de
Ricky Martin.
Su primer disco “Salsalsa”,
canaliza la pasión que Marlow Rosado profesa por el género más sabroso
de todos, el que lo mueve desde su infancia en su natal Puerto Rico y
que aprendió de maestros como Eddie Palmieri, Sonora Ponceña, El Gran
Combo y la Fania entre otros.
Marlow se crió en
el pueblo de Cataño, perteneciente al área metropolitana de San Juan.
Marlow se mudó a Florida donde estudió educación musical y obtuvo una
maestría en jazz. Durante nueve años compartió sus conocimientos en
escuelas elementales, transmitiendo su pasión por la música a niños.
Paralelamente desarrolló una carrera dentro de la industria musical
dirigiendo orquestas, produciendo, tocando y componiendo. Hasta que la
varita de la fortuna le tocó y fue recomendado para trabajar junto a
Desmond Child. Su carrera ha sido imparable. Pero Marlow siempre tuvo el
deseo de hacer un disco “a la antigua” con el toque actual que sólo él
podría darle. “Me formé en orquestas en las cuales el artífice era el
director, el músico, no solamente el cantante, como La Fania y como
tantas otras. Armé la mía, La Riqueña con los mejores músicos que he
conocido a lo largo de estos años. Luego hice un disco a mi manera. Un
disco que se hace cuando no se tiene limitaciones de ningún tipo”,
agrega.
Bastó que hace algunos meses Andy
Montañez, la leyenda viva de la música escuchara ese disco para sentirse
embrujado por los arreglos de metales, por el swing, por ese sabor a
salsa dura del trabajo de Marlow y quisiera apadrinarlo. Una semana
después grabaron Salsalsa y Tema Riqueña, dos canciones que forman parte
fundamental de este álbum de ensueño, que en cuestión de meses ha
logrado colocarse en el gusto de los amantes de la salsa con estilo.
