Juan Carlos is an accomplished independent filmmaker who recently completed Know How, a hybrid documentary he directed, written and acted by foster care youth based on their own true stories. In 2010 Juan Carlos founded White Roof Project, a nonprofit focused on curbing climate change by painting black rooftops with energy saving reflective white paint. To date the organization has activated over 1000 volunteers, coated over 200k square feet, and launched a national DIY campaign. His first film was the award-winning virtual world documentary Second Skin that landed it extensive coverage in Newsweek, NPR, Wired, BBC, The Dr. Phil Show, Boston Globe, Variety and dozens of other major media outlets. Second Skin was also voted the #4 Documentary of 2008 by Ain’t It Cool News. He also produced branded content for Vice, and launched their Motherboard channel with his documentary on Richard Garriott.
